The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
