A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season present a multitude of pursuits much better than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments came out over the break, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
